Photographer Ivette Ivens has published photos of moms breastfeeding their babies. Some of them breastfeed for years while others for a week, but they all have a story to tell.
Ivens says she wanted to show different paths and stories breastfeeding moms experience. Her models have completely different lives; some of them are stay-at-home moms, others are celebrities. Ivens has two sons and she’s finishing the book that she wants to release this fall. It contains portraits of breastfeeding moms, mostly shot in Chicago area and Hawaii.
She says that she wants to show that breastfeeding is a natural, innocent and amazing action. She wants people to look at pictures of breastfeeding women and feel fine about it. That’s why her photos have a story behind them. Breastfeeding is another way a mom can show her love for her child, and Ivens hopes others can see this in her pictures.
Ivens said she find it really sad that breastfeeding causes negative emotions in some people. She says it’s heartbreaking that people hate on this. She hopes that sooner or later breastfeeding will have a positive image. She said that when her children grow up, she wants breastfeeding to be normal.
Ivens said that she received a lot of positive comments on her breastfeeding photos. Sadly, she received rude feedback as well and it’s mostly from women. She said that she wants to encourage women to help and support each other instead of tearing each other apart.
